Ulmer House is a community art center for the intergenerational Bushwick community. Providing not only events and exhibitions, but classes and studio space for drawing/painting, pottery, photography & multi-media arts. The design concept is centralized around an interconnectivity of people and time, embracing old with the new. This is expressed through the weaving of site lines between the levels, forming an intangible connection throughout the building.

Connection of space and time is not only established through site lines and circulation. The design is also inspired by the architecture of the existing building. A rectilinear language was established through the existing exposed beams linking the columns and reinforcing the imagery of strength through connection.
