Where a person lives impacts their life expectancy, largely due to the variance in resources for healthy living, education, and employment. Economic stability, health, and education are interrelated; I propose that a community center that focuses on education – while providing opportunities for business, employment, and community activities – can have a positive impact on community residents. The Hub Community Center in Brooklyn will be a beacon for the community, rejuvenating a decrepit building that was once a symbol of innovation and affluence, into a welcoming, lively, flexible and durable environment that maximizes natural light and use of local materials.
